Vanity Inspiration

Hello blog,

Currently, I'm in bed, got a "chill out" playlist playing on Youtube and I'm just thinking of the things I need to do while I'm on this break. Being the Queen of procrastination that I am, I decided, instead, to think of things I want to do when I get back home to Singapore. Mommy agreed to get rid of the hideous 10 year old study table in my room and let me build my own vanity that we can both use. We don't have a nice vanity table at home, so we just make use of our small bathroom, and the measly mirror in my room. Since I was moving home for good, I thought I'd build a pretty vanity that mommy and I could share. We can do our hair and makeup with the help of good lighting at a "proper table", comfortably. My makeup has also been stored in a random storage box of drawers, and I don't like it! As we are revamping the whole area, I think it would be good to be able to organise everything neatly and nicely.

So, I've just been building a vanity in my head. There are a lot of things that I'm envisioning, and I thought I might as well do a post since it would be nice to be able to reference to the beautiful vanity tables I've found on the internet. Also, I've found lots of advice and articles. Hopefully this post might help others who want to build their own vanity tables too!

Disclaimer: I went on tumblr for inspiration - all pictures are either from tumblr or found online. None of the pictures are mine!!!

Tables

I'm still unsure what colour/material I'd want my table to be. I have dark mahogany wooden flooring at home and my walls are painted yellow and white. So perhaps a white table? Or wooden one? From all the pictures so far, white seems like the safest option. Vintage looking or no? Something with drawers? We shall see, I will need to visit Ikea and other homeware stores too before deciding on anything...

Makeup

I'm pretty sure I know what I want to use to store my makeup! Acrylic drawers from Muji - of course I'd be open to cheaper options!!! So I will probably look around for cheaper alternatives on Amazon/Daiso/etc before deciding to purchase anything. For now, Muji drawers that I've seen in person look the best, although they are also the most expensive.

The pictures below are seriously makeup porn. I love makeup, and that's where I spend the most, if not all, of my money. Stacks and STACKS of makeup make me SOOO happy... I think the thing about Canada I'll miss the most is the cheap drugstore (or even lux) makeup. Drugstore makeup in Singapore is double the price of what they cost here in Canada! Unfair, and unfortunate. It is so expensive to build a makeup collection... Oh well, I'm on my way there!!!

Brushes

I read somewhere on the internet that brushes are best stored standing up! I'm not sure of the science behind it, but sure! I think it's the most logical way to store it too, since lying down might take up more space due to the different lengths of the brushes. Anyhow, besides storing them in empty candle glass containers, here are some alternatives - flower pots, acrylics filled with beads/coffee beans so they will stand, and a jar with a cover. But the last one might be my favourite! No dust and it looks really pretty. The only con might be that the brushes could possibly be a little inconvenient to retrieve... Hmm, options!!!

Perfume

After I started researching, I saw many perfume trays on vanity tables and they all look exceptionally lovely!!! So, I have decided that I want a Perfume tray on my vanity table as well! I think that if my perfume collection were placed together on a decorative tray, it will look really lovely since most perfume bottles look really nice anyway! So, it would be a waste not to display them... Hehe!

I might even get a candle just for decoration, but that might be a silly waste of money since I'll never use it. I need to beef up my perfume collection too... I'm currently lusting over MMM - Lazy Sunday Morning & Derek Lam 10 Crosby - Rain Day

Hopefully I will get to "build" and put together my dream vanity soon enough! I will try to update my blog with pictures when I finally get to put the table all together. It might take a long while because I still have 2 months till I am home, and I will be extremely busy. It is also an expensive process. So, for now I'll dream about it and hopefully get to work on it when I get home. Just discussing and researching about it gets me really excited already!!! I hope it all will come to fruition really soon!

XX, Cand
